Temperatures are warming, school is out, and summer is basically here. For many families around the country, that means it’s time to travel. Summer is one of the most popular travel seasons for many different reasons. So how many are planning on taking some trips over this coming summer? And what do their travel plans involve?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 45% of overall respondents said they are likely to travel at some point this summer. However, not all of those respondents are absolutely certain of their plans at this point. 44% said they are unlikely to travel over the summer. And 11% are completely unsure.
Of those who plan to travel this summer, 74% plan to use their own personal vehicles to get to their destination. 25% said they are likely to fly to their destination. 8% plan to take a train. 7% plan to take a bus. 5% are taking a cruise or traveling by boat. And 4% were unsure or have other modes of transportation in mind.
In terms of actual destinations, New York, Texas, Florida, Las Vegas, California, Canada and Mexico were named as popular places for summer travelers.
Over the past few years, the popularity of travel websites like Travelocity and Expedia has increased dramatically. Of those who plan to travel this summer, 49% said they are likely to use travel websites to help them plan their trips. 38% said they plan to use Expedia. 36% will use Travelocity. 32% prefer Priceline. 29% plan to use Hotels.com. 24% like using Orbitz. 22% are likely to use Kayak. 20% will use Trivago. And 23% like other travel sites such as Hotwire, or websites for specific hotels or airlines.
