Yahoo Survey: Users Split Over Personalized Homepage Features

Yahoo recently unveiled a new homepage design that gives its users a more personalized experience, along with a few other new features. Users can view news articles and other content that is tailored to their browser history, and even linked to social media so they can see suggestions from friends. What do Yahoo users think about the new look? Do people like personalized content on their home pages?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 33% of respondents said that they visit the Yahoo homepage every day. 12% said they visit the homepage several times per week. 8% said they visit it about once per week. 6% said every few weeks. 25% said they rarely visit the Yahoo homepage. And 16% said they never visit the Yahoo homepage.

Of those who at least sometimes visit Yahoo.com, 25% said they like the new homepage layout. 19% said they do not like the new layout. 30% said they are still undecided. And 27% said they haven’t yet seen the new Yahoo homepage layout.

But Yahoo doesn’t get all of its visitors strictly from its homepage, and it has made news content a cornerstone of its new page layout. Overall, just 18% of respondents said they read articles on Yahoo news every day. Another 18% said they read Yahoo news articles several times per week. 8% said they read Yahoo articles about once per week. 10% said they read them every few weeks. 27% said they rarely read news articles on Yahoo. And 20% said they never do. Of those who visit the Yahoo homepage at least once per week, 33% said they read Yahoo news articles every day, and 33% said they read them several times per week.

Personal Content

In general, just 13% of respondents said they definitely like having personalized content such as news articles and suggestions from friends on their browser homepage. 23% said they somewhat like having personalized features on their homepage. 32% said they don’t really like having personalized content on their homepage. And 13% said they do not like personalized features at all. 19% said they are undecided. Of those who visit Yahoo’s homepage at least once per week, 19% said they like personalized homepages and 27% said they somewhat like them.
